Agents and panel
Notifications
The panel itself writes to Telegram or a webhook about what matters. There's no email. Without channels, you'll learn about failures only by opening the panel.
Channels — “Settings” → “Notifications”: “+ Telegram” or “+ Webhook”. Up to 10 channels, each with its own set of events.
Telegram
- Create a bot with @BotFather: the
/newbotcommand — it gives you a token. - Click “+ Telegram” and paste the token.
- Send the bot anything or add it to a group, click “Find chat”, then choose the chat. You can also enter a chat ID or @channel by hand.
- “Add and test” — a test message arrives in the chat.
Webhook
The panel sends a POST with JSON to your URL: events, text and a link to the panel. Works with n8n, Make or your own service. A 2xx response means delivered.
With a signing key, the panel adds the header X-Arcula-Signature: sha256=… — an HMAC-SHA256 of the body. With it the receiver checks that the message is from your panel.
Events
| Event in the panel | When |
|---|---|
| “Backup not saved” | The copy didn't reach the storage, or the backup is incomplete — a component was missed |
| “Backup saved” | Every backup to every storage — for those who want to see everything |
| “Run skipped” | The agent is online, but scheduled backups don't start |
| “Became “critical”” | A server or storage is “Critical” |
| “Became “warning”” | A server or storage is “Needs attention” |
| “Back to OK” | After “critical” or “warning” |
| “New and unprotected” | Discovery found a volume or directory you haven't decided on yet |
| “Cleanup failed” | Old backups in the storage weren't deleted |
| “Restore” | The result of arcula restore: succeeded or not |
A new channel gets everything except “Backup saved” and “Became “warning””. The checkboxes on a channel change the set. If no event is selected, the channel stays silent.
How the panel writes
- Once a minute and briefly: everything new in one message per channel, one line per event, with a link to the panel. In Telegram — up to 40 lines, then “… and N more — in the panel”.
- Times in messages are in the panel time zone.
- “Critical” and “warning” arrive if the state holds for 2 minutes: short spikes don't wake you up. While the problem holds — a reminder once a day.
- “Back to OK” arrives when the problem is gone.
- If a channel didn't accept a message, the panel retries the next minute, but for no longer than an hour.
- Events that happened before the first channel was added aren't sent.
The result of the last send is shown on the channel: “Delivered …” or “Not delivered …: reason”.
Test message
“Test” on a channel sends a test message right away, even to a channel that is off. This shows that the token, chat or URL is correct.
The panel stores the bot token, the webhook URL and the signing key encrypted and never shows them back. To change one — “Edit” and the new value; an empty field keeps the old one.
What notifications won't tell you
If the panel itself isn't working, it can't report that. For this, add this address to any external monitoring:
https://<panel address>/api/web/v1/healthIt responds without signing in and reports an error if the panel has no connection to its database. If it stops responding, the panel is down.
The same article is in the panel, under “Help”.
